Excerpt from the DJ flap
The term "Lutheran Confessions" is one used to include the three Ecumenical Creeds, the Augsburg Confession, the Apology to the Augsburg Confession, the Smalcald Articles, Luther's two Catechisms (Large and Small), and the Formula of Concord. These documents, known collectively as The Books of Concord, are generally regarded as the classical expositions of the faith Lutherans hold and (in most instances) share.
This book is intended as a companion to The Books of Concord. The author gives the historical circumstances attending the origin of each document and an exposition of what the document has to say. The book's style is simple, unassuming, and lucid.
