Synopsis
The Winona Lake Study Conference on the Distinctives of Wesleyan-Arminian Theology, held in November 1964, under the auspices of the National Holiness Association, has been widely acclaimed as the most significant event in the holiness movement in this generation.
The conference, attended by administrators and pastors and by representatives of the academic communities of several denominations and organizations, drew together more than eighty individuals who were scholarly, objective, and uniquely representative. It was a time of serious study and soul-searching concerning the doctrine of entire sanctification and its relationship to the contemporary scene.
During the three-day meeting, thirty-six manuscripts were presented under four main headings:
1. The Concept of Sin
2. The Content of Salvation
3. The Life of the Christian
4. The Church and the World
Most of these papers, along with introductory addresses by Kenneth E. Geiger and Roy S. Nicholson, are included in this volume, which is probably the most comprehensive compilation of holiness thought ever produced. These are not official "position papers" representing the views of the National Holiness Association or any of the participating groups. They do, however, in the words of the Findings Committee, "represent a sincere effort to present the distinctive message of Wesleyan-Arminian theology in fresh and contemporary expressions and to provoke deeper thought on these subjects.
The reader will find the contents of this volume stimulating, inspiring, and challenging.
